I agree that the farm bill is a step in a good direction - opening up opportunities to get a better price for farm produce. A free market deciding price is however an unforgiving system that forces suppliers to take losses if they cannot hold out for a better price. As farming is the basis of livelihood for a significant fraction of the population and margins are usually low, a couple of bad seasons will drive many into debt and bankruptcy. Msp is like an insurance policy against that. I would say msp should continue - where farmers have the option but not an obligation to sell to apmc at msp. If farmers are able to get better prices as the government hopes then ppl wont have to fallback on msp anyways.
