Journey or Destination

Years later you will only remember the journey; the destination would be forgotten.

Journey or Destination

What is the most recent thing that you got started with? Weight loss program, reading a book, taking a course, a new project, a client; anything else?

No sooner have we started, we get focused on the endpoint. The goal that we need to accomplish, the destination that we need to reach. Our constant obsession is with reaching that end.

Almost nobody; not parents, not school, not the university, nobody teaches you to enjoy the journey and the ups and downs that the journey itself presents to us.

Recently I learnt about a disease called Orthorexia Nervosa. It is characterised by excessive preoccupation with eating healthy food. When you set out on a weight loss routine and you get obsessed with the end weight that you want to achieve, rather than the journey, you develop this problem. As a result, you cannot enjoy a single meal or guilty pleasure.

What is the point of being healthy like that?

Set your goals but always keep your eyes on the journey. Even if you reach the goal, you will always look back at the journey, not at the goal. The goal itself will give you momentary pleasure, the journey is the gift that will keep giving.

hmmn...I enjoy riding a train when I know that it is going to my home town or a flight when I know I am going to Mumbai. Knowing where we are going alone will help us enjoy the journey. Else it's just travelling.
